Competitors set to tackle gruelling Beachport triathlon

The 2013 Beachport Hotel Triathlon is set to take place this Saturday (March 2) with athletes coming from all areas of the district to compete.

The event will take place on the Beachport foreshore and offers a choice of three courses to suit competitors’ abilities. The courses are comprised of the following:

  • Junior Course – 50m swim, 2.4km cycle, 500m run;
  • Short Course – 200m swim, 8.8km cycle, 3km run;
  • Challenge Course – 500m swim, 18.3km cycle, 6km run.

The Junior Course allows for individuals aged between 8 and 13 years to participate, while the Short and Challenge courses are open to individuals and teams with participants aged from 13 years and 14 years respectively.

Awards up for grabs during the event include:

  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female overall in the Challenge Course;
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female overall in the Short Course;
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd boys and girls overall aged between 8 and 10 years in the Junior Course;
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd boys and girls overall aged between 11 and 13 years in the Junior Course;
  • 1st individual male and female for each five year age category; and
  • 1st placed team.

The start and finish area is the Beachport foreshore, with vehicle access to this area restricted immediately prior to the first race and during the afternoon. Signs will be posted to show where spectators can gain vehicular access, and traffic marshals will be available to approach for instructions.

The course will be well marshalled, but competitors are advised to familiarise themselves with the entry and exit points to the transition area before their race. Triathlon Australia race rules will apply on the day, and post-race refreshments will be provided to all competitors.

Registrations close at 3.00pm today (February 28) via the RegisterNow website but registration will be taken on the day between 7.00am and 8.00am. A race briefing will be held before the start of the Juniors at 8.20am, with the Short Course starting at 9.00am and the Challenge Course at 9.30am. Trophy presentations will be held at the Beachport Hotel beginning at 12.30pm.

Finish times will be provided for all races, along with split times for Short and Challenge races. Live results will be available online at www.myraceresult.com.au and WattleRangeNow will post full results as soon as possible after the race.
