The tradition of an annual Christmas Party for past and present Rendelsham residents over the age of 70, was started by the Presbyterian Ladies Guild 52 years ago and continued until the recent decision by the Millicent Presbyterian Church to close and sell the local church. In true country spirit, and with the dedication it takes to hold such an event, those involved in putting on this luncheon decided to continue the tradition and held the 2013 Christmas Luncheon on Wednesday 9th December.
Approximately 37 people attended this year and were served cold meat and salad and had a choice of Christmas Pudding or fruit salad for sweets. This event began 52 years ago as a morning tea but in 2000 the organizers decided to change it to a lunch.
This years team consisted of Lyn Brooks who has been the team leader for the past 6 years, Sue Leslie, Pauline Brooks, Heather Ellis, Ros Haines, Lynette Redden, Laurene Hann and Mel Gilbertson.
The Rendelsham Primary School provided the entertainment, singing Silent Night in Indonesian and English. They also sang Waiting on the World to Change. It has been a long tradition for the school to perform at this event each year.
Millicent resident and well-known entertainer Joan Morgan provided the musical entertainment for the afternoon.
