Christmas Celebrations

The Millicent Bowling Club started their Christmas celebrations with a dinner in the club rooms at 6.30pm on Sunday 15th December.

President Derk opened the celebrations with heart-felt pride of the Millicent Bowling Club & all’s its members.

76 members & guests enjoyed the company of each other & supplied their own entertainment. The microphone was passed around & a few good yarns were told. The duo of Ian & Iain gave us musical interludes while President Derk (with the assistance of Vice President Steve) kept the formalities to a minimum.

Dinner consisted of roast pork & lamb as well as jacket potatoes. Salads, sides & sweets were provided by the attending members & guests. What a feast!!! My favourite had to be the ‘Santa Strawberries’ so very cleverly fashioned by Ella Pietersma!

If anyone couldn’t find something they enjoyed to eat they weren’t really trying, & the same can be said for the quantity.

The list of people to thank is almost endless. President Derk did a marvellous job with the Xmas décor. Thanks to Esther Scudds & her helpers in organising the annual raffle. Mary Campbell & the ladies who assist in the setting up (& cleaning up) when we hold these events. They are a credit to our Club. The cook, Steve Carnellor, needs praise as well. Only he can burn the mid-night oil but not the meat. To all of you, & everyone else who contributed to the evening behind the scenes (& the bar); thank you all for making this Christmas celebration one of the best.

At the end of the evening President Derk assisted Esther to draw the Christmas Raffle.  And the winners were:
1st prize Jim Edgcumbe     –     2nd prize Kris Nicholson     –     3rd prize Liz Vanderhorst     –     4th prize Greg Richards     –     5th prize Anne Chalmers     –     6th prize Mary Clifford

A special presentation was made to Veteran Bill Davis. President Derk Pietersma congratulated Bill & presented him with his badge.

Ladies Championship Fours 2013-14

Although the temperature rose toward the forties, this could not stop the final 2 teams contesting the annual “Ladies Championship Fours” event for 2013-14.

The team of Jan Buhlmann (skip), Ella Pietersma, Carlene Godden and Faye Hill maintained a steady lead to come out winners over Heather Carthew (skip), Dawn Bellman, Barb Schuller and Helen Clifford.

Wattle Range Funerals 2-4-2

This event was cancelled due to the higher than allowable temperature.
