The Wattle Range Council district is experiencing one of its busiest summer tourism seasons on record. Over 6,500 people have visited the Penola/Coonawarra, Millicent and Beachport Visitor Information Centres so far this season, a 7% increase on the same time last year.
Wattle Range Council Mayor, Peter Gandolf said, “tourists are choosing to holiday in our region because of the diverse range of experiences we have on offer including wine, food, four wheel driving and fishing. These experiences coupled with a vibrant summer event calendar have contributed to the increase in visitation”.
“For the December period we saw more interstate and international visitors in the region with an increase of 7% and 6% respectively, compared to the same time last year” added Mr Gandolfi.
The Wattle Range Council operates three visitor information centres (VICs), provides sponsorship and in-kind assistance to regional events and is a financial contributor to regional tourism organisations and marketing initiatives.
