Mod Cleaning 2-4-2

The ‘heatwave’ we experienced in the Lower South East this week caused a delay in the start time of the Millicent Bowling Club’s normal 1pm Thursday start.

A recent addition to our club is a Stevenson Shield for our temperature gauge that was built by our House Chairman, Rod Gibbs. Given the extreme temperatures of the last few days, it certainly was timely!

In a first for our club, play in the Mod Cleaning 2-4-2 competition on Thursday 16th January started as a twilight contest at 5pm on the Hahn Green. This initiative was very well received by the 20 participants who took part in the match.

Although down in player numbers, it was one way to ensure that the die-hards weekly tradition was carried on regardless of the weather conditions.

The eventual winners were David Botting & Lindsay Warneke with a score of 32+22 on rink 5 with the runners up, Rod ‘Nipper’ Horne & Derk Pietersma returning a score of 32+14 on rink 4.

Third place went to Ron Wicks & Iain Campbell on rink 6 who finished with 32+13.

The other winners were Bill Cattanach & Neil Whelan (31+7) on rink 3 &, on rink 2, Derek Bowering & Steve Carnellor finished with 30+15.

2014 Men’s Championship Singles

After a week of searing heat, it was good to get back to comfortable playing conditions on Saturday 18th January. The Millicent Bowling Club’s Men’s Singles Championship got underway with players vying for the title.

The day began with LSEBA President Max Blacketer presenting Bill Schuller with his Super Veterans badge & Arnold Damhuis with his Veterans badge.

Glen Tilley & Peter Varcoe played for the ‘Consolation Singles’ title. Glen was the victor in this well contested match.

After a lot of close games the preliminary finals were played out between John Buhlmann & John Scudds, in match 1, & Steve Carnellor & Iain Campbell in the 2nd match with the interest of the spectators requiring marker Denis Clifford to resort to the use of the club-coloured ‘lollipops’ to allow them to keep track of the score

The title will be decided between John Scudds & Steve Carnellor on Thursday 23rd January at 10.00am prior to the Millicent Quality Meats’ 2-4-2.

Spectators are encouraged & welcome!
