Shadow Health Minister Hon Rob Lucas spoke with  5 THE FM /wattlerangenow this week, and confirmed  his commitment to reinstate Obstetric Services at the Millicent Hospital. Mr Lucas said if there is a change of government and he is the next Minister for Health, “ I will be a Minister that takes responsibility, seeks solutions and will direct Country Health SA to find solutions to the situation at the Millicent Hospital,” Mr Lucas said.

“Obstetrics will be reinstated at the Millicent Hospital if there is a change of government at the coming election,” Mr Lucas said at the Public Meeting at Millicent in July 2013.

Mr Lucas has met with the doctors from the Medical Clinic Millicent since the Public Meeting and continues to seek a model which will provide the level of service required in the region, he said.

Mr Lucas told 5THE FM/wattlerangenow that he can’t say how Obstetric Services will be reinstated or in what time frame.

The current government has continued to dismantle services at the Millicent Hospital despite the Public Meeting in Millicent in July of 2013 attended by 650 people protesting to the closure of Obstetric Service at the Millicent Hospital.

Wattle Range Mayor Peter Gandolfi said in an interview on 5THE FM recently, “CHSA continues to treat our community with contempt in regard to the loss of our hospital services.”  Mr Gandolfi told 5THE FM/wattlerangenow he will continue to support the campaign to save hospital services and has recently written to Health Minister Jack Snelling about staff cuts at the Millicent Hospital.

At the time of posting this report, Health Minister Jack Snelling has not responded to our correspondence.
