New midwife service part of obstetric closure

by S Lowe 5THE FM newsonline wattlerangenow

In our story, posted on Thursday 13th February, regarding CHSA’s  announcement that a new Midwife Service would soon  be offered to eligible mothers, we reported that the service would be available in the Millicent, Southend, Beachport and Mt Burr areas from February 24th 2014.

Currently new mothers make an appointment with the midwife at the Millicent Hospital for follow up assistance after the birth. CHSA told 5THE FM/wattlerangenow that this service will still be available for those wishing to access it.

In answer to our enquiry about mothers further afield in Kingston and the surrounding area, we were told by CHSA that Kingston had their own service.

Further information received shows that when CHSA closed Obstetric Services at the Kingston Hospital, they implemented the Midwife Service at-home visits.

The new Midwife Service was implemented in Kingston in conjunction with the closure of Obstetric Services at the  Kingston Hospital and is now being implemented in conjunction with the closure of Obstetric Service and staff cuts at the Millicent Hospital.
