Parking is a problem in Rendelsham, just once a year, on the annual Village Market Day and this year was no exception. The crowds arrived early to sample home made fare, grab a bargain at the bric a brac stalls, enjoy melt in the mouth steak sandwiches, buy treats for canine friends, add some bling to their jewellery box and bid for items in the Auction.
Rendelsham Sports and Progress Association organise and run the market and Treasurer Dawn Williams described the day as ‘brilliant’.
“The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic and the whole day had the atmosphere of a relaxed country fair. The children had fun, there was something for everyone and the kitchen did a roaring trade with the popular devonshire tea,” Dawn said.
Music lovers were entertained by Robert Leslie and his band and Singer/Songwriter Bill Chambers arrived for a day at the market and thrilled the crowd by joining in with Robert and the boys. Bill was home for a visit with family and a concert, and spent time with parents Eric and Judy Chambers.
Bill grew up in Southend and told us that his first real gig as a young man, was playing guitar in the Rendelsham Hall so the day had many memories for him.
About 600-700 people attended the market on Sunday 16th February.
