The Millicent Community Garden Green Fingers was officially opened on Saturday 1st March. Millicent Community Garden Chairperson Katherine Davies said this week on 5 THE FM, the idea of a community garden began about 2 years ago and just grew from there.  The garden currently has about 30 raised garden beds with the opportunity to build more.

The official opening comes just one year after  the garden began and is part of the new HUB on Fifth Street, which also houses Craft Group, Millicent Lions Club and the Men’s Shed.

Katherine said that some people thought it strange to have a community garden when we have so much space in the area but the idea is based more on people coming together and meeting with each other, enjoying a pastime together and benefiting from each others knowledge and experience.

Morning tea was provided by the Craft group.

Wattle Range Council have helped level the garden area and will soon assist further with more leveling taking place for further garden beds.

Katherine said she has visions for the future which include a children’s garden, a pizza oven and twilight events.
