2014 RFDS Charity Day

The Millicent Bowling Club was proud to host a Charity Day in support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service on Sunday 16th March.

6 rinks on the Hahn Green were used to accommodate 48 players made up of bowlers, night owls & non-bowlers. Play was held over 2 games of 8 ends each. The winners of the first game progressed to the next rink & the losers went down a rink with the skippers going to lead & the leads going to skipper.

After the 3 games all retired to the clubrooms were the Joan & Mary had prepared a scrumptious afternoon tea & Clive put “Clive’s Wheel” into action with prizes (supplied by local small businesses of Millicent) ranging from torches to gift vouchers & glasses to massages were up for grabs.

Runners-up for the day was the team of Bill Davis, Clive Stevens, Joan Ellis & Max Richards who finished on 50 + 11. John Chalmers from the RFDS present each of them with a bottle of wine. The winning team, finishing with an aggregate score of 51 + 19, were Glenn Schapel, Alan Strother, Merle Stevens & Maureen Elton. John presented them with Somerset Hotel meal vouchers.

The encouragement prize (for the lowest aggregate score) went to the “4 Tees” team of Bill & Jules Taylor & Maggie & Keith Thrussell.

Other prizes were given in a blind draw. Lead was Sarah Ross, Second was Ed Fitter, Third was Cliff Elton & Skipper was Graham McRobert.

John Chalmers addressed those assembled & gave them a brief overview of the operations of the Royal Flying Doctor Service & the role local Support Groups play in raising funds for this not-for-profit organisation.

Tournament Director Malcolm Wright had the pleasant duty of presenting John with $2,071.50 that was raised for the day. The break-down of this amount was given as $905.00 in donations & green fees, $176.50 from the raffle, $240.00 from Clive’s Wheel & $750.00 from the Club’s “wrong bias tin”.

A special thank you was extended to all the people who assisted in making this day a success & to the local small business community for their generosity & ongoing support.
