Short films highlighting the quirks and beauty of South Australia, as seen through the eyes of locals, have reached more than one million views on social media channel, YouTube. Through Local Eyes, a unique digital campaign run by the South Australian Tourism Commission, focuses on what local film makers love about South Australia.
Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the project harnesses the passion of everyday South Australians to showcase the State, as opposed to traditional marketing methods.
“We’ve handed the reins over to our best story-tellers – the South Australian public,” Mr Bignell said.
“The short films showcase the diversity and beauty of the regions as well as demonstrating the potential for fun in the city. In fact, there are four films based on what can be seen in just 1,000 steps of Adelaide’s CBD.
“Through Local Eyes is a project that showcases not only our State, but the talent of local film makers – many of whom are quite young.
“One film – Kids, Crabs and the Best Day Ever, which tells the story of a family holiday at Yorke Peninsula, was used by the South Australian
Tourism Commission as part of its domestic marketing campaign ‘Best Backyard’ and screened in cinemas.”
A Nielson study in 2009 showed 90 per cent of people trusted recommendations from peers and 70% trusted online opinions from strangers.
So far 30 short films have been commissioned by the South Australian Tourism Commission, with plans for more.
The films cover a range of South Australian destinations, events and attractions including the Adelaide Central Market, WOMADelaide, Ebenezer Place, small bars, the Fleurieu Peninsula, family attractions, and Fork on the Road.
