The soccer season has started again for the Millicent Women’s Soccer Club.

The U14’s have had the best turn out in their 5 year history with 16 players registered this season and once again Kevin and Toni McGrath and their team at Millicent Veterinary Clinic have graciously sponsored us. With half the team being new to the game the season already looks promising with the girls ball skills and knowledge of the game developing very quickly.

Our first game of the season was on Saturday 3rd May at Millicent against County. County had a few girls away but were still very strong. Going into the game, not sure what would happen, as this was the first game for most of Millicent’s new players and Millicent gave an indication of things to come.

County had a very strong defence and forward line but Millicent put up a strong fight . At half time the score was 4-2 county’s way but Millicent was still in with a chance.

During the 2nd half Millicent’s lack if fitness and county’s expertise kept Millicent at bay. Even though county had the ball up near their goals for most of the 2nd half they only managed to get one more goal past Millicent.

Final score County 5 Millicent 2. This outcome was very encouraging for Millicent and wasn’t the slaughter that could have happened.

Goal Scorers – County B Thomson 5, Millicent C Fabris 2.

Saturday 10th May saw Millicent U14’s travel to the Mount to play Wanderers. This game was again going to prove interesting . Last year Wanderers, then playing under The Mount banner, became a very strong side by the end of the season and only having lost 2 players from last year were expected to continue on from where they had left of.

The match was proving to fairly even for the first half with both teams having numerous shots at goal only to be stopped by some excellent keeping from both goalies. Millicent finally got one through on Wanderers and went to the half time break in front.

The 2nd half saw Millicent dominate the game keeping the ball in their attacking zone for most of the time. Millicent scored another 3 goals.

Final score Millicent 4 Wanderers 0.

Goal scorers for Millicent Ally Canala 2 Claudia Fabris 2.
