Within the first 24 hours of release, Limestone Coast developed App, ‘George the Farmer’ soared the charts on the App store to become the number one book and ninth overall most popular App for the iPhone. This lovable Australian larakin has cemented a strong foothold into the children’s App market for all of the right reasons.
Welcomed by the agricultural industry across Australia as a worthy educational tool to help teach 0-8 year old children about farming and food & fibre production in a simple, but fun way, it has been receiving rave reviews and has also been making sales into the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
“Across the world, people may need a hairdresser or a doctor a few times a year, but every day, three times a day we all need a farmer. Educating children on where their food comes from in a simple but entertaining way is one of the main aims of George the Farmer. This lovable character definitely has international appeal” said Simone.
The stories, written by Simone and illustrated by Ben, focus on George the Farmer, who is everyone’s friend. With his trusty dog Jessie by his side, George tackles the day to day activities of Australian farming life with enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and most importantly a big smile.
The App, aimed at 0-8 year old children, includes the first story of the series which follows George as he plants a wheat crop as well as two games and a sing-a-long activity.
George the Farmer will be officially opened by Mitch Williams the State Member for MacKillop at 10.30am on Friday, August 1 at the Millicent Public Library, Ridge Terrace. The opening will include a story reading, showing of the App, demonstration of how George was illustrated, a sing-a-long to the theme song as well as all illustrations from the App being on show in the adjoining A-class gallery.
School children and teachers will be in attendance and people of all ages from the Limestone Coast are welcome to join in the George the Farmer festivities.
The exhibition will run until August 23. The next George the Farmer App story is due for release in November with a game App to be released in February.
