Free cyber safety workshops, aimed at helping parents and caregivers guide and protect young people online, are being held this month in the Limestone Coast area.
Presented by former Victorian police officer, Susan McLean, the cyber safety awareness workshops are being hosted by the District Council of Grant and the Limestone Coast Local Service Area’s Drug Action Team.
The events, being held in a number of places from August 11 to 15, will cover a range of online issues – from the destructive impacts of cyber bullying, to fallout of ‘sexts’ gone viral and the hidden lurks of online predators.
In addition to the free sessions for parents and caregivers, there will be a workshop for professionals who deal with group of young people in Mt Gambier on Friday 15 August.
“This is not something anyone concerned with our youth should miss,” said Sergeant Paul Scicluna, the manager of the police Crime Prevention Section.
“Susan makes it clear that it is not only the responsibility of the individual, but also parents and caregivers.”
