Residents of Millicent and districts will have access to a weekly passenger transport service to Mount Gambier from Wednesday 17 September.
At its meeting of 12 August, Wattle Range Council supported the engagement of Al’s Bus Service to provide the service for a six month trial period. An evaluation of the viability of the service will be made based on its use during this time.
The lack of passenger transport has been an ongoing issue for the community in the Wattle Range Council area. Council’s Chief Executive, Peter Harriott says “This service will renew an important link to the regional centre, enabling residents to maintain social contacts, connectedness to family and friends and to attend various medical and other appointments.”
Running once a week on a Wednesday, the bus will leave from the Mount Burr General Store at 8.45 am, pick up Millicent residents from 9 am at North Terrace (adjacent to the netball courts), Williams Road (outside the Boneham Aged Care facility) and at the Millicent Visitor Information Centre. It will then be scheduled to return to Millicent in the afternoon departing Mount Gambier at 3 pm.
The fee for travel will be $15 (return) for full fare adults, a concession rate of $8 and children accompanied by an adult will travel for free.
Bookings are essential and can be made through the Visitor Information Centre or by ringing (08) 8733 0904.
