5THE FM will host the annual White Ribbon Day event on Tuesday 25th November at the station, 31 Railway Tce Millicent to bring awareness to the global campaign that violence against women is not acceptable.

A sausage sizzle will be provided at 12 noon followed by the annual walk through George Street by Ambassadors and members of the community. Everyone is welcome to take part.

5THE FM’s campaign has been running now for 5 years and continues to make change through the many men who have signed on as White Ribbon Ambassadors.

Our vision is to make change over a generation –  consistently building a team of Ambassadors to bring about that change.

The 5THE FM White Ribbon Campaign has plans to expand in the coming year with the help of the Ambassadors and we will keep the community informed as these plans become a reality.

The role of an Ambassador can be very involved or can be a simple role, what ever the person is comfortable with.

Ken Lane, White Ribbon Ambassador and 5THE FM presenter said,” I think being a White Ribbon Ambassador is an easy way to make change; perhaps a man who knows I am a White Ribbon Ambassador may decide not to hurt a woman just because I have put my name to what I believe; that violence against women is not acceptable.” Ken’s two sons, Chris and Jack are also White Ribbon Ambassadors.

Local singer/songwriter Leah Briggs will perform a song she has written relating to violence against women, at the 5THE FM event on Tuesday 25th November.
