Interim Intervention Orders give police greater powers to protect

Police yesterday arrested and charged a 38-year-old man with two counts of aggravated assault and threats to harm.

Police were called to a Mount Gambier house following a report of domestic abuse.

As well as facing serious charges, the man was issued a police Interim Intervention Order, which provides further protection for the victim.

These Orders provide police with greater powers to take immediate action to protect individuals and their families not only from physical violence – but also threatening and controlling behaviour.

The man from the Limestone Coast was refused bail and will appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today.

Police encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence to contact them immediately for assistance.
