The resignation of the two doctors at the Penola Medical Clinic late last year resulted in Expressions of Interest being called earlier this year. Country Health said today it has been an extensive process and issued the following statement :-
Country Health SA has appointed a new provider of GP services for the Penola and Nangwarry communities.
South East Regional Director Jayne Downs said Country Health SA has appointed Executive Health Group because its application included a number of key elements that will greatly benefit the area.
“After an extensive Expressions of Interest process attracting three different parties, we chose Executive Health Group for a number of reasons, one of them being it aims to extend clinic hours to include some weekend and evening hours,” said Jayne Downs.
“It will also support the Penola War Memorial Hospital and provide services to emergency services and aged and palliative care.
“Executive Health Group will also provide two resident GPs with a potential of a third if feasible and triple practice nursing hours.
“Another reason the Executive Health Group was chosen was because it already has experience with working with Country Health SA as it operates the Roxby Downs Doctor’s Surgery.”
Executive Health Group CEO Dr Nirmal Grewal said he’s looking forward to continuing and building upon GP services for the people of Penola and Nangwarry and cementing the medical practices’ reputation for timely, convenient, reliable and trustworthy primary health care to the community.
“I am personally committed to ensuring the transition process is as smooth as possible. In fact, I am relocating my whole family, my wife and two-year-old daughter, to Penola for a number of months to work within the clinics and we are looking forward to getting to know the local community,” said Dr Nirmal Grewal.
“During that time, I’ll also be working hard to better understand the needs for the new management of the medical practices.
“Already I’ve had discussions with a number of doctors who are interested in working with us at the practices. We understand the importance to the community of securing these doctors’ services so the community can look forward to a stable and reliable primary health care service.
“In the long term, we hope to extend the medical services offered to residents of Penola and Nangwarry by attracting more visiting specialists and allied health professionals to the region.”
The Executive Health Group aims to begin providing GP services to the area in April, 2015. In the meantime, Country Health SA has highly qualified locum GPs servicing Penola and Nangwarry.
