The inspirational and multi award winning STILL LIFE from the UK is the next film that patrons of the Reels Film Society will view on Thursday 16th April at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Mount Gambier. From the same people who gave movie lovers The Full Monty, Producer Uberto Pasolini has created a poignant, tender, quixotic tale of life, love and the afterlife.
The radiant Joanne Froggatt from Downton Abbey co stars in this comedy/drama that won Best Film at the Venice Film Festival and elsewhere in 2013 and gave Eddie Marsan Best Actor honours at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
John May (Eddie Marsan) is a council worker charged with finding the next of kin of those who have died alone. The meticulous and obsessively organised employee finds out that his Department is about to be abruptly downsized. In this age of “efficiency” the unassuming and selfless John May has one last assignment, a project that takes him on a liberating journey that allows him to start living life at last.
Beautifully observed and profoundly affecting, STILL LIFE is described as a gem – a resonant and universal celebration of dignity, community values and human connection, and ultimately, all that life is worth living for.
See this sensitive and measured movie at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on Thursday 16th April. Drinks and Nibbles for members start at 6:30pm, lights go down and curtain goes up at 7pm.
