Police are investigating after propertyworth thousands of dollars was stolen from a yacht which washed ashore after an incident in the state’s south-east earlier this month.
Early on 10 May SA Police, the SA Ambulance Service, the State Emergency Service and the Country Fire Service responded to a marine rescue incident at a beach about 16km north of Beachport.
During the incident a 40ft yacht struck a reef and four people who were on board were rescued from the beach after deploying a life raft.
The yacht later washed ashore and lay on the beach until it was recovered on 18 May.
During this time property – including laptop computers, navigational and cooking equipment, large sailing type winches, a 4hp Yamaha outboard motor, a Honda 1000w generator, mobile phones, admiral anchor, steering wheel and waterproof clothing – was stolen from the vessel.
Police wish to advise that there are no salvage rights, nor public entitlement to remove property from vessels under such circumstances. All property on such vessels remains the property of the owner.
Anyone with information about the stolen items, or who may have taken the gear from the vessel, is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at https://sa.crimestoppers.com.au/
