Recently elected Millicent Business Community Association (MBCA) Chairperson and local business woman Margaret Chapple proudly exhibits the poster advertising the gala awards event planned for Saturday 25th July at the Civic and Arts Centre. Ms Chapple moved to Millicent with husband Steve and sons some years ago and never dreamed she would be the front person for a business association;  but she told 5THE FM she felt the time was right to step out of her comfort zone and is now enjoying the  role even getting used to having her photo taken which has surprised her. Ms Chapple owns and operates the successful business Alternate Life in George Street Millicent and enjoys the interaction she has with people each day.

The MBCA has held the annual Awards event for four years and each year it has grown in popularity with over 200 nominations last year. A panel of independent judges will assess the nominations and the winner will be chosen on merit and not necessarily by the number of nominations received.

Nominations forms are in local businesses now and collection boxes are in Wattle Range Council, the Visitor Information Centre, the South Eastern Times  and 5THE FM. Voting closes on June 30th, judging will take place during July and  nominees will be announced on 5THE FM/wattlerangenow and the South Eastern Times with winners announced at the Gala Event.

Ms Chapple said, “I am so pleased with the teamwork and the enthusiasm of the committee. It has not been hard to arrange because we have such good communication and we seem to have  achieved so much in a short time. I am really enjoying it and really looking forward to the Awards night.”

“I  hope that the community supports the event; it will be a gala event and a night to enjoy for the whole community. This year all nominees will be brought onto the stage and presented with a Certificate and the winners will be announced following this. All nominees will be recognised for their efforts and the committee urges the community to think about the service they receive and take this opportunity to show their appreciation for local businesses  by nominating them.”

Bookings for the event close on Wednesday 22nd July and tickets can be purchased from Heaven on a Hanger, Alternate Life and Balcony Cafe.
