Country Health SA has out out a call on the open market for orthapaedic emergency and surgical and ophthalmology services at the Mt Gambier Hospital South East Regional Director Jayne Downs said specialists can now put forward proposals as required by SA Government procurement guidelines, a call for interest and proposals for the provision of orthopaedic services at Mount Gambier Hospital has now been released to the market,” Ms Downs said.
This follows a period of uncertainty which saw orthopaedic surgeons Barry McCusker and Henry Forbes almost reach the end of their contract with CHSA with no guarantee of further contracts to continue to practice. In July of this year they both were signed for a 6 month contract.
Ms Downs said, “Both Mr McCusker and Mr Forbes have worked at our hospital for many years, and we invite and encourage both surgeons to take part in this process.”
Ms Downs said as part of a separate process Country Health SA is also seeking interest in proposals for the provision ophthalmology services at Mount Gambier Hospital.
“We are committed to providing this service in Mount Gambier and this process will allow both current and other providers to put forward proposals for the provision of this care,” she said.
resident and locum ophthalmologists will continue to provide services up to 30 June 2016 under the current contractual arrangement between Dr Trevor Hodson and the hospital.
“Dr Hodson and his colleagues have worked at our hospital for many years, and we invite their participation in the procurement process that is currently under way.”
