The Wattle Range Council Senior Month concluded Friday with the announcement of the Senior of the Year Award 2015, Mr Fred Ellis. Cr John Drew described Mr Ellis this way before presenting the award.:-
“The senior of the year is an active member of the community.
Is and has been a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years and was at one stage the President of the club.
Is a member of the Freemasons Lodge and has been involved in donating to projects around Millicent.
Is also a member of the RSL and served in the Navy Forces. Helped build the original Ridge Terrace Courts and has been a member of the tennis committees.
This person was on the committee that raised money for the Millicent Hospital when it was first built. Is a member of the Agricultural Bureau.
This person also supports the Uniting Church.
Apart from all this, the senior of the year often takes time to visit friends and locals at Sheoak and Boneham Cottages.
The senior of the year for 2015 was a Justice of the Peace for over 30 years. A Councillor on the Millicent Council.
Started the committee to get the Millicent Rescue Unit (Jaws of Life) up and running. Volunteer on the local CFS trucks.
Has been on school committees through his children’s schooling. This person organised and got the Canunda School bus running and still attends probus meetings.
The senior of the year is a wonderful community member, who is always willing to help with any organisation to support our community through general hard work, experience, knowledge and financially.
