Millicent Bowling Club 28 November 2013

The funeral was held this week for Pam Campbell, a most loved bowler of the Millicent Bowling Club. Pam was an excellent bowler with many club championships and state representation to her credit.

After the graveside service the family and friends moved to the Millicent Bowling Club for a cuppa and morning tea.

Pam Campbell legacy will continue in The Millicent bowling club sons Iain and James, and daughter Carol following in their mother’s footsteps.

The Mod Cleaning 2:4:2 was held as usual on Thursday. Twenty four players took to the greens and the players coming in with a winning card were Steve Carnellor & Ray Thiele 31+5, Alan Strother & Rob Chambers & Jeff Hollingsworth 32+1, Manny vanderHorst & Herb Henderson 32+8, Bruce Pettman& Linsay Warneke 32+12, Bill Fennell& John Scudds32+13.

Winners for the day were Ron Trewin and Peter Scanlon 34+11.

Division 1 played Mt Gambier RSL Blue in Mt Gambier.

John Scudds ( skip ), Steve Carnellor, Neil Whelan and Denis Clifford played steadily and were 1 shot down at the 23rd end. However, the locals had a late surge and went on to win 23 shots to 16.

The team of Rod Gibbs ( skip ), Iain Campbell, Ian Ross and David Crase dominated their game and went on to a substantial win, 34 shots to 8.

Terry Barnes ( skip ), Peter Scanlon, Bill Davis and John Buhlmann started evenly but were overwhelmed in the last half to go down 11 shots to 32.

Division 2 Millicent hosted Penola.

Derk Pietersma ( skip ) , Lindsay Warneke, John Chalmers and Rob Chambers played an even game, but lost the last end to go down 20 shots to 24.

Marino Gandolfi ( skip ), Glen Schapel, John Madden and Dennis Schultz dominated the game and went on to a convincing win, 25 shots to 11.

Herb Henderson ( skip ), Keith Bennett, Bill Burdon and Peter Varcoe played well all day to win 31 shots to 13.

Division 3 Red travelled to Mt Gambier RSL

Glen Tilley ( skip ), Malcolm Wright, Ray Thiele and John Eldridge played steadily all day but went down 17 shots to 21.

The team of Rod Horne ( skip ), Wayne Burris, Alby Cecotti and Brian Atkinson started evenly and fought on strongly only to go down 15 shots to 22.

David Botting ( skip ), Andy Kramer, Max Blacketer and Allan Correll started strongly, then the game tightened up. The scores finished locked together at 20 shots each.

Division 3 Blue hosted Lucindale

Derek Bowering ( skip ), David Taylor, Cliff Elton and Paul Ryan got off to a very good start and continued playing well to win 32 shots to 14.

Doug Chiltern ( skip ), Barry Stoddart, Glenn Brown and Manny Vanderhorst battled hard all day, to go down 19 shots to 31.

The team of Rod Harkness ( skip ), BobBaxter, Ray Doecke and Alan Strother got off to a good start and fought on strongly to win 26 shots to 22.

Division 4 played Mt Gambier RSL Blue at Mt Gambier

Bill Schuller ( skip ), Clive Stevens, Mario Rodaro and Jim Earl played well and finished strongly to win 30 shots to 17.

Arnold Damhuis ( skip ), Peter Bateman, Jim Godden and Dick Vanderhuel had a very close game but went down by 1 shot, 17 shots to 18.

The team of Bruce Pettman ( skip ), Peter Hyland, Max Richards and Chris Earl played well only to lose the last end and go down by 1 shot, 26 to 27.

Division 5 travelled to Penola and played on very slow grass.

Ken Taylor ( skip ), Brian Goode, Ron Wicks and Bill Fennell were overrun on the heavy greens to go down 8 shots to 36.

The team of John Drew ( skip ), Ed Fitter, Ron Trewin and Brian Johnson lowered their colours on the heavy greens to go down 11 shots to 30.

Men’s pennant ….week 3

Division 1 v Mt Gambier Blue

Rod Gibbs ( skip ), Iain Campbell, Ian Ross and David Crase were away to a big lead. They almost let the opposition into the game, but steadied and went on to win 33 shots to 22.

The team of John Scudds ( skip ), Steve Carnellor, Neil Whelan and Denis Clifford were out to a large lead, then lost 15 shots. By winning the last 2 ends, they ran out winners 28 shots to 23.

Terry Barnes ( skip ), Jeff Hollingsworth, Bill Davis and John Buhlmann had a steady start and in a close game got over the line to win 24 shots to 22.

Division 2

Millicent v Kalangadoo

Marino Gandolfi ( skip ), Glen Schapel, John Madden and Dennis Schultz had an even start. They were able to pull away as the game progressed to win 29 shots to 19.

Derk Pietersma (skip ), Lindsay Warneke, John Chalmers and Rob Chambers were slow to start. They finished strongly but fell short by 2 shots, 21 to 23.

The team of Herb Henderson ( skip ), Keith Bennett, Bill Burdon and Peter Varcoe started slowly then scored two 6s, a 5 and two 4s to win 24 shots to 23.

Division 3 Red v Frances

Rod Horne ( skip ), Wayne Burris, Alby Cecotti and Brentley Thomas started steadily but by end 18 they had lost touch. They made a comeback but ended the game 7 shots down, 24 shots to 31.

Andy Kramer ( skip ), Malclom Wright, Ray Thiele and John Eldridge were off to a great start and finished strongly to win 30 shots to 20.

The team of David Botting ( skip ), Phyl Ryan, Norman Peart and Alan Correll had a good start , but losing a 6 and a 5 proved too much in the end, going down 22 shots to 27.

Division 3 Blue v Naracoorte R.S.L.

The team of Doug Chilton ( skip ), Barry Stoddart, Glenn Brown and Manny Vanderhorst played consistently all day. The only time the opposition took the lead was end 24. Luckily Millicent had a 3 up their sleeves and went on to win 24 to 22.

Derek Bowering ( skip ), David Taylor, Cliff Elton and Paul Ryan found the going a bit tough in the first half of the game. After the lunch break they won 7 ends, but it was not enough to overtake the opposition. They went down by 7 shots.

Rod Harkness ( skip ), Bob Baxter, Ray Doecke and Alan Strother were even at end 14. At end 18 the opposition took control of the game and defeated Millicent by 11 shots.
